CSI Project
For the CSI Project our class was assigned one of the three crimes scenes that were set up by our teacher. Once we were assigned our crime scene we began to inspect the body, and the area surrounding it. We collected the evidence for the crimes scene along with taking pictures of important factors. When analyzing the evidence there are many different techniques. For blood spatter analysis, springs are attached to the the center of multiple blood splatters and pulled through the center until they all connect. For superglue fuming analysis, superglue and water are evaporated underneath the specimen, as to expose the prints left behind. There were nine pieces of evidence that had to analyzed in there own special way. From DNA processing, blood spatter analysis, trajectory of the bullet, and other forms of evidence, we were to catch the killer of our subject.
Although this was one of the most fun projects I have ever had the pleasure to participate in, I am not very good at handling gruesome topics like murder. Unfortunately, because of my squeamishness I did not get into participating in the project as much as I could have. Even though at the end of my project I completed all the necessary parts of the project, I did hold back from really getting into what I was learning. Luckily, my partner was very good at supporting me throughout the project and explaining the part that i did not understand. Over all, I think that the project was a very good experience for me and i enjoyed doing it.

Community Connection
In biology all students have to do at least one community connection. A community connection is an act that benefits the community or something in society. For my community connection I choose to donate blood to the American Red Cross. Although I came very close to passing out after donating, I enjoyed giving back to my community. It was nice to be able to help someone and better my community.
Dissection Project
For the dissection our class was aloud to choose between dissecting a fetal pig, a cat, or a shark. I choose to dissect the fetal pig because it had the most similar anatomy to a human. For the dissection we studied the major parts or the body such as digestive system, nervous system, reproductive system, circulatory system, and the respiratory system. For the final, my partner and I had to be able to locate the different parts of each system and explain their function.
Monkey Meal Plan
For the monkey meal plan out class had to construct a meal for the money reserve. When making the meal, we could choose between making a meal for monkeys, chimps, or monkeys and chimps. Each meal had to follow certain guidelines such as number of calories, proteins, vitamins, other nutrients and the time it would take to make. Once we had finished planing our meals, our class sent the recipes to the reserve for the people to use when cooking for the monkeys. My meal plan was parfait made for chimps.

Habitat Assessment Project Reflection
The students of Animas high took several surveys on the property to determine the population of both species of frogs. The surveys conducted included water quality tests in both the river and pond, inventory of the local plants located on the property, and a visual count of the amphibians observed. These tests allowed the students to predict the population of the amphibians, and determine that the Durango Nature Studies has a healthy habitat. Along with taking surveys, the students of Animas High School studied the identification of frogs, constructed data analysis, field work, and created tables and charts of the data. With the data they collected, each student prepared a habitat assessment of the DNS frog, insect, and plant population, and recommendations for fixing species problems. All assessments can be located on the Durango Nature Studies website.
