La Poesia de la Comida
For the poem and food project, we started out by choosing a country and researching foods native to there. Once we choose our food we researched recipes and translated them into spanish. From there we began writing our poem about our food using, lots of adjectives and trying to create a sensation for all five of the senses. Finally we prepared our food and served them at our exhibition, along with reading our poem or recipe to the community.
The poem and food project was a very fun experience for me. Because we were working on poetry in another class at the time, it was very refreshing to have to write the poem in spanish, and made it much more entertaining. I enjoy writing so the poem was more of a fun task rather than a hassle. Unfortunately, the food portion of the project proved more difficult for me. My recipe contained a large amount of cornmeal, and while reading the recipe, I mistook pre-cooked cornmeal as a kind of cornmeal instead of an instruction. As a consequence of this, my Arepitas Dulces turned out grainy and not very pleasant to eat. Although my food did not turn our as good as I had planned it, I still enjoyed the project and found it to be a good learning experience for me, that I very much enjoyed.

Ode to Arepitas Dulces
Ode to Arepitas Dulces
By Raven Fallon-Cyr Ode to Arepitas Dulces The crisp feeling of chips crunching The spongy give of the dough Plush under the fingers touch The golden brown shines A sunset of glowing beauty Bright as the corn from your making Tastes of the nectar of the gods Sweeter than sugar itself The sound of the oil boiling, Like a bubbling creek A scent more intriguing than rain Ticking the tongue The oil and sugar dancing to a sweet song Ode to Arepitas Dulces |
Oda a Arepitas Dulces
Book Project`
For this project, Our class first had to research a country, that had a primary language of spanish. Once we chose our country, we researched it and found information about foods, festivals, religions, geography and many other things. After finishing or research, we planned out our book and wrote an outline form our story. From there we edited our writing and put it into a book that we personally decorated. From there, we put a glossary in of the words we had to look up. In the very end we went to Needham Elementary School and read our books to a first grade spanish class.
This project was very fun for me, especially because of its exhibition. Normally with exhibitions I am used to seeing parents and siblings but it was fun being able to have a different crowd, especially since the little kids were so cute. I am also happy with this project because I normally am not much of an artist, but I did fairly well with my drawings. I myself, am very proud of my work and I really enjoyed the project, I think it was a great experience overall.
